Writing project work

Most formal adult education courses and many non-formal education courses require project work, which involves some research.

When setting a project for your learners you need to ensure that they understand what content is required and how to write up the project.

Characteristics of the projects are:

originality - every project work has a specific purpose; subject, target group, results
knowledge/experience based - it could be based on previous or new information of other researches or projects
specific methodology - every project has its topic and clear subject, goals and appropriate methods
relevancy to the overall study programme
timeframe - project work has a time limit, so it has to be carefully planned and managed
practical organisation and management

You can help your learners work on a study project by thinking about

aim and objectives
methodology
content and structure
information gathering
choice of appropriate aids and equipment
who to ask for help
how to carry out the empirical part of research
preparation of short and clear questionnaires
methods for analyzing data (including data processing and numeracy)
criteria for evaluating results
a timeline for the drafting, editing of the final version
