Introduction

We are talking about managing and valuing diversities and this part of the tool-kit will put focus not only on treating and managing diversity in a group but also how to take care of the diversities and to use them in a constructive way and to turn them into something positive for the whole group.

The first step of being successful in working with diversity in the classroom situation is to provide knowledge.

Knowledge of different cultures and religions both in your own country and in other countries
Knowledge of different sorts of disabilities both in general and specifically. Awareness of how society and politicians treat these questions. Awareness of what kind of help and support is available in the country concerned.

This knowledge and awareness is very important for everybody who works with people, especially for teachers and tutors.

On this web site you will find cases to discuss. The cases will give you an idea of the varying situations that can occur in a group with adult students. We hope they will give you and your team inspiration to find solutions and how to solve a problem. We are not giving you any suggestions on solutions because we think they will depend on which circumstances you have in your country and in your culture.
